Meet Our Founder

Brianna Warner, Bioregional community herbalist and friend of nature

The origins of my “plant path story” might be a familiar one to many of you. Rewind to 2020, the height of the COVID-19 pandemic — all of the grief and disconnection and fear and isolation had made its way not only into my psyche but also my body. I was chronically in pain, suffered daily headaches, constant bloating, irregular cycles, full-body inflammation, and perhaps worst of all — my mind was telling the story that everything/everyone was something/someone to fear. I lived in a perpetual state of fight-or-flight and it ultimately took its toll on my health and well-being.

At the peak of lockdown, spring and her blooms were my lifeline. My daily neighborhood walks admiring the wildflowers slowly and profoundly started to shift my perspective. Beauty offered a way out of my fear. It pointed to something bigger than me and the bubble I put up around myself in the name of self-preservation.

My plant journey began by noticing the simple Dandelion - I realized that this “weed” that my neighbors were trying so hard to kill was actually trying to heal us. How serendipitous that this plant that was so restorative for the heart and liver proliferated under our very feet, stubbornly trying to catch the attention of a society plagued by heart disease and liver toxicity. I began preaching the gospel of the healing plants that surrounded us every day to anyone who would listen. Nature was calling me to partner with her in order to bring her medicine back to my community.

By incorporating plants into my daily routine and righting my relationship with nature, my body slowly started to heal. The fog began to clear along with the inflammation and pain, and I began to see a path forward that was much greater than me and my own healing journey.

Head in the clouds

Hands in the dirt

After a life-changing two years spent living in the heart of South America and experiencing the wonders of plant medicine, I returned home to the PNW on a mission to become a “facilitator of healing.” I sensed that humankind was at a point of desperation for true healing, for a return to wholeness. Modern society has greatly disconnected us from nature, from each other, from our core essence - thus the barrage of health ailments that we see today, fueling an $800 billion dollar “sick care” industry profiting off of our cycles of illness and pain. I sought to be a disruptor to all of that nonsense.

After two years of self-study, craving in-person guidance and mentorship, I enrolled in a year-long herbal apprenticeship with a local intuitive herbalism school, Hawthorn & Honey. Every Sunday afternoon was spent in the forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest, gathering plants, learning about their healing constituents, and making medicine. It was the most special part of my week. Early on in this process it became clear to me that the apothecary I was rapidly building needed to be shared. My weekly foraging had given me a treasure chest of natural medicines my community desperately needed. And thus, Lucy on Earth was born…

Why “Lucy,” you may ask?

Just days after enrolling in said apprenticeship, I found out I was pregnant. I spent week after week foraging in the forest as my baby girl grew little by little in my womb. Since conception she has been a part of this story, nature her companion in her journey to Earth.

Lucy on Earth is my gift to my girl, Lucia Rose. I do this work for her, in order to facilitate healing the world she will inherit.

But it’s also a gift to myself.

Lucy is the name of my younger self. When I was just four years old I demanded my family call me Lucy, after my beloved great-grandmother. While that insistence only lasted a few months, I would carry that precocious inner child with me from that moment on. “Lucy” would spend her childhood with her head in the clouds and hands in the dirt, making friends with the trees and worms and frogs she found in abundance in the lush Pacific Northwest forests where she grew up.

Now that I am a grown woman, Lucy represents to me the innocence of youth and a time of being completely embodied and free. My own health journey involved letting my body remember what that felt like, to be connected to the ether and the earth by way of childhood wonder and full-bodied joy. Honoring “Lucy” was my journey back to vitality.

It would be my privilege to support you in yours.
